  38. How do I report inappropriate content?

1. What is My Persona?

My Persona is a gathering place that provides information about you and your interests as well as highlighting all of your site activity (i.e. comments, photos, posts, etc).

2. What is a profile?

A profile is a personal homepage that you update. Use it to introduce yourself to other Detour members -- tell them your nickname, share your Dream Detour and upload an image of yourself.

3. What are friends?

Adding a another Detour member as a friend provides you with a quick link from your persona to your friend's persona. Now you're just one click away!

4. How do I add a friend?

While visiting another member's persona, simply click "Add me as a friend." Once you've been added to their list, you'll have a quick link on your own persona to your friend's persona.

5. Where can I see my friends?

On the "Home" tab of your persona there's an area called "My Friends." This is where you'll see a linked list of all the Detour members you've added as friends.

6. How do I remove a friend?

Next to each friend, there is a red button. Simply click on this button to delete that member from your friends list.

7. What are messages?

This feature allows you to carry on conversations with your friends and other Detour members.

8. How do I leave someone a message?

While viewing another member's persona, just click on the "Messages" tab and enter your message for that member. Be sure to add their persona to your friends list so you have an easy way to keep up the conversation.

9. Can I leave a message on my persona?

Yes! You can join in on the conversation, too! While viewing your persona page, click on the "Messages" tab and enter your reply for your friends and other members to read.

10. How do I delete a message?

Next to each message, there is a red button. Simply click on this button to delete that message. Please note that once you've deleted a message, there is no way to get it back.

11. What are comments?

If you have an opinion, we want to hear it. Comments allow you to share your thoughts about something you've seen on our web site. Start or join a conversation by simply adding your comments to articles, blogs and photo galleries featured throughout the site.

12. How do I leave a comment?

When you come across a text box with the label "Add a Comment", simply enter your comment and click "Submit." Please note that while everyone can read comments, only registered members can post comments. If you're not a member, don't worry. Registration is free and easy. Just click here to get started. <<

13. What is most recommended?

If you like an article, photo or discussion then you can recommend it to other Detour readers. Simply click on the green "recommend" button.

14. What is My Watchlist?

Ever wish you could keep track of discussions or other site features that you find interesting? Well now you can! When you find something on the site that you want to track, simply click "Add to My Watchlist" and a link to that item will be automatically added to your persona. You can then review your Watchlist using the private view on your own persona page.

15. How do I add something to My Watchlist?

Simply click "Add to My Watchlist" and a link to that item will be added to your Watchlist for you.

16. What is the difference between My Galleries and Public Galleries?

"My Galleries" is a collection of personal photos that you upload to your own gallery that can be shared with family, friends or other Detour members. "Public Galleries" are galleries set up by our Editors for any Detour member to submit photos about specific topics such as yoga or rock climbing.

17. What is My Galleries?

My Galleries are photo sets that you create to display personal photos that can be shared with family, friends and other Detour members. For example: "My Skiing Vacation"

18. How do I create my own gallery?

Go into the "Photos" tab within your persona and click on "create a new gallery" under "My Galleries."

19. How do I upload a photo to my galleries?

Go into the "Photos" tab within your persona. Under "My Galleries," click on the gallery title and then on "upload photos to this gallery." Please note that you must create a gallery before you can upload photos. Also photos should be no larger than 1 MB.

20. What are Public Galleries?

Public Galleries are public galleries set up by our Editors for any Detour member to submit photos about specific topics such as yoga or rock climbing.

21. How do I upload and submit a photo to a Public Gallery?

While viewing a Public Gallery, just click "submit photos to this gallery."

22. How do I know if an Editor selected my photo?

You'll receive an email notification if your photo has been selected by our Editors.

23. What is a blog?

A blog is an online journal made up of multiple posts and is intended for a public audience. It's a free, easy place to share your thoughts with our Editors about the activities featured on the website.

24. What is a post?

A post is a single entry within a blog.

25. What is blogging?

Blogging is the activity of posting and updating a blog with new posts. Our Editors update their blogs daily so please be sure to check back often or subscribe to one of our RRS feeds. <<

26. What are blog post comments?

If you read a post and want to share your own thoughts just click "Add a Comment" and enter your thoughts in the text box provided and then hit "Submit." 27. What are discussions?

Discussions are community topic areas where you can : - Start or join a discussion on a particular topic of interest - Ask or answer questions from other members or Detour experts - Learn about new and interesting topics Please note that while everyone can read the discussion threads, only registered members can post a question. 28. What is a category?

Discussions are grouped into categories to help you find the ones that interest you the most. For example: "The Best Yoga Mats" discussion would be found within the "Yoga" category

29. What is a discussion thread?

A discussion thread is a specific conversation that centers around a specific post. For example: "Amex mats are the best" under "The Best Yoga Mats."

30. How do I find a discussion?

You can browse threads within any discussion or use the "Search" feature to find the ones that most interest you. To use "Search" just enter a keyword within the search box, select your category and then hit "Search."

31. How do I join/post to a discussion?

On the discussion page, click "Add a new post." Enter a headline, your post and then hit "Add post." For example: Headline: Yoga Mats Post: Amex mats are the best yoga mats out there. I've had mine for almost 5 years now!

32. Can I start a discussion?

Yes, just click "Start new discussion" on any discussion page and then enter a headline, your post (the first post in the discussion) and hit "Start discussion." Please note that only registered members can start a new discussion. If you're not a member, don't worry. Registration is free and easy. Just click here to get started. <<

33. Can I ask a question?

Yes, just click "Add a new post" on the discussion page and then enter a headline and your post. Before you click "Add post", be sure to check the box labeled "Mark this post as a question." Your post will then display a special icon that will let other members know you're asking a question. Please note that only registered members can ask questions on our discussion boards. 37. What is Report Abuse?

Our Editorial Team is dedicated to providing a safe, entertaining and educational environment. "Report Abuse" links allow you to alert our staff to any inappropriate comments, photos or posts on the Detour website.

38. How do I report inappropriate content?

If you spot inappropriate content (i.e. comments, photos, posts, etc) on the site just click on the "Report Abuse" link and our Editorial Team will review it to determine whether or not it should be removed from the site.
